Occupational therapy practitioners are distinctly qualified to provide work rehabilitation services due to their understanding of the complex and dynamic relationship between the person, the environment, and the occupation; and their ability to address physical, social, and cognitive supports and barriers to performance. Evaluation and intervention are tailored to the holistic needs of the client and take into account all aspects of the work environment and work demands to facilitate successful performance.
Exercising geriatric patients in group homes, private homes, and day hab fabulists present a unique challenge to caregivers and staff. Most patients have multiple diagnoses, take multiple medications and are frequently deconditioned and possibly have never previously exercised. Our skilled therapist will provide participants with therapeutic modalities and exercises that will teach different movement techniques and innovative interventions for all of the body’s major joints as well as for the most common diagnoses seen in older persons (i.e., stroke, Parkinson’s disease, gait and balance deficits, etc.). Our skilled clinicians will provide therapeutic modalities to the participants that will also learn how to use functional tools to establish and guide exercise programs, thus improving functional test scores, outcomes, and safe mobility. Evidence-based research will be used to support the efficacy of the geriatric exercises presented and both indications and contraindications will be discussed.
